The Corridor

Jitka Válová

Jitka Válová - The Corridor
The artist, a member of the Trasa group, is a prominent representative of the 1960s new Czech figuration. She understands man in jeopardy for which she uses fragile elongated silhouettes that are reminiscent of the sign language of prehistoric rock engravings. The painting Corridor expresses this existential distress of modern man with a vivid symmetric composition in which a human figure is transformed into an illusive view of a void. For its content focus and painting quality, using a wide range of non-contrasting glaze tonal values, this painting is one of the artist’s top works.
