The motif of the picture is in line with Kosárek's personal scepticism and despair, provoked by the onset of an uncurable disease, tuberculosis, at the very time he plannned his marriage. It is his declaration about fleeting happiness, an elegiac allegory about irreversibly lost time. The Romantic world of the painter's imagination suddenly found a specific content and was combined with a specific event. Although the landscape is not an accurate picture of a specific part of the country, we realize that Kosárek set the wedding merriness against the background of Kozí hřbety (Goat Hills) near Suchdol, not far from Roztoky and Prague, which extend as far as Unětice. The contrast of the gloomy rocky scenery all in brown and brown-grey tones and the wedding passing by is really impressive.
