Adolf Kosárek - Czech Countryside
1858 was a particularly prolific year for Kosárek, in which he painted many large and important pictures of the Czech landscape. The painter may have been driven to assiduous work by his fear that the newly presenting illness might substantially shorten the time left to him. He wanted to be on his own and to paint. His Czech Countryside, arranged from views observed in nature, is a good example of the way Kosárek handled colours, keeping his motif in only a few brownish, rusty, greenish and blue-grey values. With his colour interpretation of landscapes and of their atmosphere Kosárek opened the way for realistic landscape painting.
