Male and Female Torso

The pioneer of kinetic art, Zdeněk Pešánek, used modern non-sculpture materials and various sources of light in his sculpture for the light and kinetic Spa Fountain in the Czechoslovak pavilion at the International Exposition of Art and Technology in Modern Life in Paris in 1937. He combined the vertical composition of two connected transparent torsos of artificial resin with a row of coloured bulbs programmed to go on one by one and with a curved neon tube which dematerialised and enlivened the fragments of a human body with rhythmical movements of light.
