This view of a town gate that opens toward a landscape strewn with windmills shows the highest tower in Amsterdam - the Westertoren tower of the Westerkerk church. Employing the concise technique of parallel, finely-drawn hatchings, Zeeman was able to evoke a landscape veiled in a misty haze and reflections of water.
