Jan Veenhuysen - engraver - The New Town Hall in Amsterdam (Stadthuis), from a series Topographical views of Amsterdam
Cityscapes were a frequent subject in the Dutch printmaking. A view from the extensive cycle featuring Amsterdam’s prominent buildings and landmarks depicts the New City Hall on Dam Square (at the top), completed in 1655, only shortly before this print was made. Later on, the edifice was adapted to function as a royal palace.
