Wenceslaus Hollar

Wenceslaus Hollar - Title page for the Butterflies and Insects cycle (Muscarum scarabeorum vermiumque variae figurae et formae, ?)
During his residence in Antwerp, Hollar published etched plates executed after models he obtained from Arundel's collections in London, or he could have worked from works that the collector managed to take with him when fleeing the country. As a Royalist, the Earl of Arundel already took refuge in Antwerp in 1642. Based on Arundel's collections, Hollar produced a set of etched plates depicting butterflies and other insects, a fact also stated on this title page.
