Small Ball

Jiří Sopko

Jiří Sopko - Small Ball
Jiří Sopko studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague between 1960 and 1966. Sopko is captivated by a human figure depicted in various, even banal situations with an ironic hyperbole. Beginning in the seventies, he has been reducing figures into several fundamental lines and shapes of typical cylindrical volumes and globular hairless heads. Sopko underlines the shape simplicity with multifarious non-descriptive diversity of colours. He is one of the prominent representatives of the ‘Czech grotesque’ art.
