Anonymous - St. Peter on the Cathedra
According to Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus said o his most important apostle: “Thou art Peter (a rock in Greek) - and on this rock I will build my Church.” St. Peter on the Cathedra is represented as the successor of Christ on the earth, and the first pope. Wearing a ceremonial garment, he is seated on the throne, and the symmetry of the composition is only disturbed by the preacher's gesture of his raised hand.
