Prints of the apostles were part of a 15-volume series that also comprised depictions of Jesus, the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist. According to some researchers, the series was influenced by German masters of the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries (such as Albrecht Dürer, Lucas van Leyden and Lucas Cranach the Elder), while others propose a hypothetical consideration of the influence of Italian Renaissance masters (such as Permigianino or Raimondi).
