Man Wearing a Close-Fitting Cap (the artist´s father?)

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn - Man Wearing a Close-Fitting Cap (the artist´s father?)
Rembrandt and his friend, painter Jan Lievens were particularly fascinated by the faces of old people, as these offered ample possibilities of expression. Ever since the 19th century, this etching has been believed to represent Rembrandt's father; however, this identification remains to be corroborated. The portrait depicts the face of an old man without a hint of idealization, while also eliciting the sitter’s emotional state.
