Wenceslaus Hollar - View of Albury
The countryside around Albury belonged to the estates owned by Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel and Surrey, who is said to have been very fond of the landscape. Clearly, Hollar also appreciated its charm and depicted it on several occasions. The etching from the series of landscapes around Albury conveys the peaceful atmosphere of the place. Hollar also demonstrated here his consummate skill in depicting water.
