An English Noblewoman

Wenceslaus Hollar

Wenceslaus Hollar - An English Noblewoman
Apart from art collections, landscapes and important buildings, Hollar also had an interest in people. He was particularly keen on portraying women and their costumes. At the time, he published in England a cycle of prints of women's costumes, his famous Four Seasons cycles, and a series of women's heads rendered in circular formats. These works seem to have been in demand in much the same way as fashion magazines are today, as they mainly portrayed women of higher social status.
