Figures of slim an fragile women were replaced by a new type of slightly plump and fleshy-cheeked ladies wearing loose hanging robes in the tomb sculpture at the turn of the 7th and 8th centuries. An elegant curve of their bodies and tall hairdos as well as their indifferent and impersonal facial expressions give them an air of dignified majesty. The famous concubine of Emperor Minghuang, Yang Guifei is said to have served as a model for this new Tang ideal of female beauty.
