Bottle with three Buddhist lions

Anonymous

Anonymous - Bottle with three Buddhist lions
Besides decoration in underglaze cobalt blue, Chinese porcelains were also painted in red shades derived from copper oxide, though this type of decoration was much less widespread than the blue and white. The lions depicted on this bottle could often be seen in bronze or stone adorning the entrances to Buddhist temples, where they were placed as their guardians.
