Draft of Josef Mánes’s Monument

Josef Václav Myslbek

Josef Václav Myslbek - Draft of Josef Mánes’s Monument
The draft for Josef Mánes's Prague monument was made five years before the sculptor's death. It is meant as an admirative tribute to this painter, whose art heritage Myslbek claimed as his own. The tall slender figure of Mánes in a self-confident attitude expresses a good deal of contemporaneous Romanticism. Bohumil Kafka worked along the lines of Myslbek's study, when he produced his drafts (his monument was subsequently installed) and so did Otakar Španiel (draft - 1929).
